All right, hack'n'slashers, this is it! Season finale time! Time to kill them all!!
As we all know by now, Spartacus is SO onto the villain Batty's villainous villainy, and he plans to take his revenge, possibly with the help of the German Hottie brothers, as well as Crisco and Old Navy who have been torn apart by Batty and Lucretia Lawless. We open with a refreshing cavalcade of man-meat as the gladiators are brought out, chain-gang-style, into the ludus. Batty is making a grandiose speech about how freaking awesome he is now that he has Glaber's patronage. Woo hoo, Batty. Woo to the hoo. (Enjoy it while you can.)
The Older German Hottie starts to make menacing eyes at a soldier, and Spartacus is all, "Chill, son. In due time."
Turns out that in order to celebrate Glaber's patronage of the House of Batiatus, Batty has set up a private fight between Crisco and Spartacus for the viewing pleasure of the Roman elite who will be able to brag, "You were at Woodstockius? Along with 100,000 others? That's nice but I and a few others witnessed Spartacus and Crixus battle to the death. Boo yah!"
It turns out Batty is also hoping Sparty will put the former Champion of capua in the ground. As the two prepare to square off, Spartacus seems to be pleading with Crisco about something, but Crisco is all, "I've given my answer."
Uh, what?
They start to fight, and then ... wait, is this Lost? We have a flashback!
We jump back two days, and Sparty and the German Hotties are discussing their plan to break out of the ludus. Turns out they only have a few people on their side, and need the endorsement of Crisco to really get the other slaves to rally. Good luck with that, Sparty, because Crisco always does exactly what you ask him to. Inside the villa, Pit Guy and Batty are talking, and Batty tells him that since he's going to pursue politics, he'll grant Put Guy his freedom and give him the ludus. Whoa! For realsies? What's more, he also calls him by his real name. I know you're all shocked to discover Pit Guy is a nickname, but it turns out he's really Oenamaus, who if you know your history is ... well, I won't spoil anything.
But instead of rejoicing, Onomatopoeia asks Batty if it's true that he killed Barca. Batty lies and says "Well, y-e-e-s, but it's complicated." Batty explains Barca disobeyed orders by killing that family, as opposed to the truth, which is that those were Batty's exact orders because he kills anybody who disses him. Remember that barista at Starbuckius who went missing after giving Batty whole milk instead of 2%? Just saying... Later out on the balcony, Batty joins Lucretia Lawless to talk about the fact that she's preggers. Lucretia isn't all giggles and cheer, though, and it turns out she's the one who came up with the fight between Spartacus and Crisco.

Synopsis: “In order to get his revenge, Spartacus enlists the help of Crixus and the rest of the gladiators to defeat the house of Batiatus once and for all. A battle to the death between Crixus and Spartacus is arranged for the Capua elite at the ludus. Spartacus gains support from Mira who is tasked with opening the gate to the villa from the training area. Crixus resists aiding Spartacus in hopes of reuniting with Naevia. However, after learning he was poisoned to ensure Spartacus’ victory, at the last moment he joins with Spartacus. Doctore stops Spartacus from killing Batiatus. In the ensuing chaos of the gladiators killing the guards and some guests, Crixus persuades Doctore to join him with Spartacus, Ilithyia escapes and has her guards seal the outside door to the ludus, Doctore tries to kill Ashur (but ends up being eluded), Crixus kills Lucretia via their unborn child, Aurelia kills Numerias, and Spartacus finally kills Batiatus. Spartacus vows to free Rome of its slavery.”

SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND Episode Review (1-13): Oh Em Effin’ Gee!
Five Bajillion Torches (Out of Five)
Warning: The following review contains spoilers for the “Kill Them All” episode of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
Wow. Wow! WOW!
Where to begin … for those fans who, along the way, had any doubts that the writers of Spartacus were prepping for a huge finale, let it be known their doubts were in (a huge heaping pile of) vain.
This was, without a doubt, the single most gruesome, barbaric, bloody, violent, and insanely game-changing season finale I have ever seen. For a show as grandiose as Blood and Sand, they knew they had to go big, and holy crap, did they ever.
The previous episode was all set-up for what was to come, in which basically all the back-stabbings were revealed, and characters began to pick sides. As tensions grew, the one character who remained on the fence was Crisco, who began the season as a fairly standard bully and morphed into a tragic hero.
The use of time-switching and flashbacks was a surprise, since the show hasn’t ever told a non-linear story before, but the surprise was more than welcome. What better way to send off the show by mixing it up a little?
Oh, wait, I know. By mixing it up a lot.
Beginning with the revelation that Doctore’s real name was, in fact, Oenomaus (who history buffs will know was an ally of the rebel Spartacus), the show played like a game of “Let’s up the ante with each scene,” culminating in one of the most electrifying (and merciless) climaxes in recent memory.
There was blood. Oh, there was blood, drawn in ways we would never expect. Remember how shocking it was when Illyithia killed her rival? Multiply that by a thousand and you have this episode.
It takes a lot to shock me — I grew up in the internet age, after all — but I literally found myself holding my breath as Crixus stabbed Lucretia’s belly, intent on killing a child that may very well be his. I’ve never seen something so viscerally terrifying, and while the show unexpectedly displayednuance by not focusing on the actual stab, the effect was still chilling.
Varro’s wife, Aurelia, a relatively new character, shocked us all when she went all Norman Bates on the young boy Numerius out of revenge for his decision to have her husband killed. I don’t think I’m going to get that image out of my mind for a long time.
The show brilliantly weaved together all its loose ends, such as Doctore finally seeking revenge on Ashur for Barca’s death, and the eventual friendship of Spartacus and Crixus — although, if I have one gripe with the episode, it was that Crixus seemed to make that huge switch too easily. However, it’s all forgiven for the insanely awesome moment when he calls Spartacus to use his shield as a launching point, just as they did in their fight against Theocles.
Quite simply, I was blown away. This is not a show that has potential, this is a show that reached its potential and then blasts right past it. I’m aware it’s not for everyone, but for those who are into this kind of thing, this is hands-down the best show on television.
All the best wishes to Andy Whitfield for a full, speedy recovery. I’m sure he’s just eager to strap on the armor again, and I, and the world, cannot wait for him to do so.

| Review: Spartacus: Blood and Sand – s01e13 – Kill Them All - Spoiler:
Episode: Spartacus, S01 E13 – "Kill Them All" Air Date: Friday April 16, 2010 at 10PM on Starz Grade: A+ SPOILERS: I am giving you fair warning. DO NOT read this review if you haven't already seen the episode. I repeat, SPOILERS! BEWARE! Kill Them All – Wow, I guess they really meant it when they titled this episode Kill Them All because that's almost exactly what happens. Notice I said 'almost.' And if you thought there was a lot of blood in the premiere episode, well, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Lucy Lawless as Lucretia 2010 Starz Entertainment, LLC Batiatus and Lucretia plan a huge party to celebrate receiving Legatus Claudius Glaber's patronage. The main event will be a battle to the death between Spartacus, Champion of Capua, and Crixus, fallen champion. All of the Capuan elite stand on Batiatus' balcony as Ilithyia reads from a prepared speech, announcing Glaber's patronage of the House of Batiatus. I loved the back-and-forth banter as Lucretia tells Ilithyia what to do and what to say. Ilithyia: "My hands are no longer my own, and now you seize my **** tongue?" Lucretia: "I would not have it flap about, absent direction." Ilithyia: "How much longer must I suffer your indignity?" Lucretia: "While breath gives life to my command." You see the furious rage in Ilithyia's eyes and being the conniving little **** we know her to be, I wonder what she'll do next. Viva Bianca as Ilithyia 2010 Starz Entertainment, LLC In what seems to be in fashion these days in many series, Kill Them All begins with a flashback, taking us two days previous. As you may know, I'm not a fan of flashbacks, but this time, it serves its purpose – to make the viewer understand and be even more engrossed in what is about to happen. Spartacus is ready to avenge his wife's death and begins courting the gladiators to his cause, including Crixus. Crixus, of course, wants nothing to do with his plan, wanting only to win his freedom in the arena so he can find his beloved Naevia. Even when Spartacus tells Crixus that Batiatus was responsible for Sura's death, Crixus, although moved by the betrayal, still balks at the idea of a slave rebellion. In a very touching, 'mano é mano' moment, with excellent dialogue, they strike a bargain. Crixus: "You know that in another life you and I may have been as brothers … but not in this one. I must win my freedom in the arena." Spartacus: "Then we stand in the way of each other's course." Crixus: "And both adjust. But if I fall, I'd have you swear to find Naevia, see her free." Spartacus: "And I would have word that if you are victorious, one day you will have Batiatus' life." They grasp arms and shake. Spartacus: "Tomorrow then, one of us dies." Crixus: "I fear it was always fated so." Batiatus, his sights on his political aspirations, no longer seems interested in running the ludus. He grants Doctore freedom, promoting him to Lanista. Before accepting, Doctore questions Batiatus about Barca and the truth of his role in his death. Peter Mensah as Doctore 2010 Starz Entertainment, LLC It is Lucretia who goads Batiatus into having the main event between Spartacus and Crixus. There is nothing quite like a woman scorned and Lucretia seeks retribution. Furious that Crixus was intimate with Naevia while he pretended to love Lucretia leads her to come up with this idea, planning all the while to poison Crixus beforehand so he has little strength to survive in the arena. Batiatus uses his main man, Ashur, to poison Crixus' beverage. Before he can drink it though, Lucretia comes to his cell, asking for the truth about his relationship with Naevia. She tells him he is the father of her child. Cruxus cannot speak with false tongue; he tells her he wishes in quiet moments that he would have a child, with Naevia. Andy Whitfield as Spartacus 2010 Starz Entertainment, LLC Spartacus, needing all the help he can get, persuades Batiatus to send Mira to his cell where he convinces her to unlock the gate at a certain time. Mira practically begs Spartacus to lay with her – that is her price for aiding in his rebellion. Later, while Spartacus and Crixus battle in the arena, Mira disappears from the crowd on the balcony, goes downstairs, kills the guard on duty at the gate, and successfully unlocks it, giving the gladiators free range to the villa. During the fight, Spartacus tells Crixus that he has been weakened as his food has been poisoned. A light goes on in Crixus' eyes and from a distance, he calls Spartacus' name and taps on his shield. Spartacus uses it as a launching pad, leaping high up to the balcony. He aims for Batiatus, but kills a guard instead. An absolute blood bath follows as one by one, the gladiators kill the guards, and Crixus and Spartacus go after the elite Roman dignitaries, all of them – men and women, including Batiatus and Lucretia. No one can get away though, as Ilithyia, who escapes to see another day, has locked them all in the villa. Manu Bennet as Crixus, Ande Cunningham as Duro and Daniel Feuerriegel as Agron 2010 Starz Entertainment, LLC "Revenge is a dish best served cold." This phrase runs deep this entire first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand. From day one, we knew Spartacus would have his revenge on Glaber. Later, when learning of Batiatus' role in Sura's death, we knew Batiatus would not go unpunished. As Spartacus' sword separates Batiatus' head from his body, it seems fortuitous that he fell close to Lucretia's fallen body. I am sorry that John Hannah will no longer be a cast member because he brought so much to the show. He is an awesome actor and will not soon be forgotten. He took scheming to a whole other level. But there were also moments when Batiatus showed his compassionate side as he sought revenge for Varro's death at Numerius' hand. Numerius, by the way, was slayed by Varro's widow in a particularly furious manner. John Hannah as Batiatus 2010 Starz Entertainment, LLC In the beginning, I had some doubts about this series. I complained there was too much blood and guts and I really didn't care for the slow-motion scenes. Wow, was I ever wrong! Somewhere around the third or fourth episode, things got really intense and I started sitting on the edge of my seat every week. I happily agree that this show could go on for season after season, gaining even more viewers by seducing them with drama, lustful vengeance, and political intrigue. So I have just a few questions to pose: Is Lucretia dead or does she just lose the baby after being stabbed by Crixus? Will Doctore join Spartacus in the slave rebellion? Will Crixus ever find Naevia? Will we see Ashur again, now that he has barely escaped with his life? And what of Mira, Spartacus' accomplice in the carnage we witnessed this day; will she continue her pursuit to gain Spartacus' affection by joining his rebellion? We know that Spartacus: Blood and Sand has been renewed for a second season, but I have it on good authority that production is on hold due to Andy Whitfield's ongoing treatment for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. In the meantime, NY Magazine's Vulture blog reports that Starz is considering a "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" prequel miniseries in order to have something to fill their January hole. In the tradition of "if you build it, they will come," if they make this prequel miniseries, I'll be glued to my seat.

| Spartacus: There Is Always A Choice
Questo articolo riassume e commenta l'ultimo episodio di Spartacus: Kill Them All: http://lucylawlessitalianfansite.webs.com/articoli.htm#565731920
Oh my sweet gherkin, y'all, this was a fantastic finale. I'm not even gonna waste your time with a bunch of upfront ZOMGs, because I can't wait another hot second to talk about what happened. Prepare yourselves, this was an intense and intensely satisfying finale.
All of Capua's wealthiest have arrived for a big party at the ludus. There are banners everywhere, the slavegirls are in their best white dresses and gold wreaths, and the gladiators are all lined up cliffside. Up in the balcony, Ke$ha reads a letter from an absent Glaber stating that Batiatus will become the new town aedile. Everyone oohs and ahhs over this, including a new dude who can't wait to have brunch with Batty to discuss it. "Sure," says a beaming Batty, "but first! A fight to the death between Spartacus and Crixus!" Wait, what?!
Flashback!
Two days earlier, we find Spartacus and the Wonder Twins working on their fitness and, I guess more importantly, their plan of escape. Unfortunately, no one else wants in on it unless Crixus agrees to it, too. It's a little hard to get in touch with Crixus, what with him still being locked up and Glaber's soldiers sorta running the place. Even Doctore can't make decisions without asking first. It's a pretty bad scene. Spartacus has no worries, though, and he tells the Wonder Twins that somehow he'll get Crixus out there. So just chillax, broskis.
Batty and Ashur, excitedly wandering the ludus, are interrupted by a disgruntled Doctore. He pulls Batty aside and is like, "Hey, you know those guards? They're getting kinda rough with the gladiators. The guys could use your help." Batty's all "Yeah, no, I'm so done with this place. I'm gonna give you your freedom and let you take care of it once I leave. . OENOMAUS." Doctore thinks about that for a second and suddenly bursts out, "You know, speaking of freedom. Did you kill Barca?" which totally puts Batiatus in a corner. Batty's all "Ya caught me. But only cuz he killed that family when I told him to just be a singing telegram. I didn't want to get in trouble for him going crazy. That makes sense, right? Buddy? Oh, and Ashur was there. Okay bye!"
Batty rushes off to see Lucretia Lohan on the balcony, where the two start talking about the pinata for the party. That is, if the pinata is Spartacus and the guy swinging the bat sword is Crixus. Batty gets upset, thinking Lucretia Lohan wants Crixus to be the Champion again. Lucretia Lohan's like, "Bishplz, I'm so done with that guy. Let's make sure Sparty wins and we can keep using him for the attention." Batty thinks that's a great plan and talks to Sparty about it. Sparty agrees to it but thinks that hey maybe Crixus should be let out of his cage so he can work out and die like a real gladiator and totally not because it would make it would make it easier to recruit him for the upheaval. Promise. Batty likes the way he thinks and says he'll let him out first thing in the morning. This makes Sparty happy and he heads to his room to make Maru videos with Mira, because he's totally doing that now.
The next morning, Doctore fetches Crixus and finds him still moping over Useless. Crixus swears he'll win against Spartacus, become Champion, buy his freedom, and find his girlfriend. Doctore tells him not to worry about that last bit because he's about to take over the ludus and when he does he'll totally set you free and help you find her. Now let's get to gym class!
Crixus is completely against Sparty's plan to escape. He'd rather buy his freedom than risk being hunted down. Spartacus tells him that they could find Useless McGee together, which is really touching but Crixus still won't do it. He tells Spartacus that in another life they could've been brothers but this is the way things are. Oh and if I die tomorrow, promise to find Useless Handmaiden for me. Spartacus agrees but only if Crixus promises to kill Batiatus for him one day? Crixus is like, uh, yeah, okay? Cuz I can totally keep that crazy promise to a dead guy who will never know the difference? Let's shake forearms and go eat.
Lucretia Lohan, ever being the delightfully evil one, is ordering Ke$ha around and asking her if she's invited everyone. Ke$ha's like "yes, your Majesty, every last one of them." Then Lucretia Lohan tells her she's going to give a speech about Batiatus as though it's from Glaber himself. Ke$ha says she'll write something but Lucretia Lohan tells her she already wrote it for her. This offends Kesha and she's like "How much longer do I have to be so contrived controlled?". Her record label Lucretia Lohan's like, "Stop being a baby. Can't we just be friends again?" Ke$ha's like "If only I could turn back the hands of time."
The day of the party, Batty and Lucretia Lohan talk about how great it'll be to have their baby and it'll be so nice to see Crixus killed. Lucretia Lohan just wants it over with already and Batiatus tells her he's sent Ashur off to poison Crixus. Oh, it's not enough to kill him. Just enough to make him sluggish when he fights Spartacus.
Lucretia Lohan claims she's okay with this but she makes one last effort to win Crixus back. She brings the poison juice to his cell and tells him about the baby. She asks if he still wants her, but he only wants Useless Handmaiden. Brokenhearted, Lucretia Lohan leaves him with his poison juice and tells him that she didn't want it to end this way. Crixus is like, "End what way? What way?!" as he gulps the poison.
It's pretty slow moving stuff, that poison, because suddenly we're right in the middle of Spartacus and Crixus' big sword fight and Crixus is just now showing signs of slowing down. Up in the balcony, Mira keeps trying to slip away from Lucretia Lohan. She's all, "Hey, would anyone like more wine? I should totally go get more wine." Lucretia Lohan's like, "Nonsense, send someone else. You're my new favorite, stay right here with me." Mira shakes her head at Spartacus. Mira's apparently a big part of the escape plan and soon enough we see why. Once everyone gets too into the big fight to notice, Mira heads down to the wine cellar where Crixus and Useless used to meet. It's the only place that directly connects the villa to the ludus, so Mira kills the guard standing at the gate. She heads up to the ludus grounds and waves at Spartacus the bloody all clear signal.
Seeing Mira, Spartacus tries to figure out a way to stop fighting Crixus. Knowing he needs Crixus alive, Spartacus tells him about the poison that Batty and Lucretia Lohan gave him and that they want him to die. Crixus, who's gotten sweaty and disoriented, still doesn't buy into it and smacks one of Sparty's swords away. Over by the cliff, the Wonder Twins keep eyeballing the sword and I'm like, NO, DO NOT, LEAVE IT ALONE. Spartacus gets close to Crixus' ear and whispers "Join me, brother" while I keep yelling at the Wonder Twins to STOP LOOKING AT THAT SWORD. Crixus gives Spartacus a sort of wide-eyed acknowledgment that he's made his choice and spins off towards the balcony. He readies his shield and it's their Theokoles fight all over again. Spartacus rushes up and leaps from the shield towards the terrified crowd, thrusting his sword at Batiatus!
Batty pulls his new brunchmate in front of him and the sword goes right into his head! As Spartacus is about to actually get Batiatus on the second stab, Doctore flicks his whip up and stops him. Crixus cuts the whip, yelling "KILL THEM ALL!" as the gladiators cry out and attack the Roman soldiers! Doctore tries to make sense of it all and Crixus tells him about Sura's murder and how Spartacus has shined a light on everything. Realizing just how terrible this place really is, Doctore throws a sword at a Roman soldier and tells Crixus to go do what he's got to do.
As the gladiators kill the last of the guards on the ludus grounds, the Wonder Twins pause to celebrate. It's a moment too soon as one guard is left. The goofy brother shoves the other out of the way and kills the guard. He's still too slow, as the guard manages to stab him in the chest. As he lays there dying, the weak twin looks up and tells his brother that he got to save him this time. I wipe a tear away as I realize how wrong I was in thinking maybe, just maybe, he'd be the one to survive.
In the villa, everyone's in a state of panic as Lucretia Lohan tells Ke$ha to go find the rest of her guards. She's like "Oh yeah, I'm so on that" but instead slips off to the door and tells the guard to seal everyone inside. The door closes behind her as she gives one last evil grin to one of her old friends. It's all very Inglourious Basterds as people are slaughtered while fighting to get through the door that's locked from the outside.
Doctore finds Ashur in the locker room and the two get in a big argument over honor and Ashur's awful behavior. Doctore throws Ashur a sword and the two start fighting but Ashur hasn't been a gladiator in who knows how long. He whines about being mocked and treated unfairly by everyone. You almost feel bad for the guy until you remember that he's the reason Barca's dead, and Doctore knows this. Doctore tosses him to the ground and Ashur holds a bit of sand in his hands. There's so many Lion King vibes hitting as Ashur plays the wounded puppy card. He tells Doctore to end his life like a true gladiator. As Doctore is about to kill him with his sword, Scar tosses embers in Simba's face Ashur stabs a small steel rod in Doctore's thigh. He escapes Doctore and hides under a dead wildebeest few dead rich people.
With virtually every other unarmed person dead, Crixus finds Lucretia Lohan alone and asks her where Uselessness is. She tells him to let her and Batiatus go and she'll tell him. He doesn't believe her and pushes her towards a pillar. She pleads to him about their child but he says he'd rather see it dead than raised by her before stabbing her in the womb. I am just as shocked as you are.
Varro's wife, who recently became a slave in order to finish paying Varro's debts, pulls Numerius away, telling him she knows an escape route. This is all untrue, as she just wants to kill the boy. Having spent the day hearing everyone say awful things about her husband, she finds out that Numerius had Varro killed and that Spartacus wasn't to blame. Numerius tells her that Varro deserved to die because he was "nothing." Aurelia tells him he's wrong, Varro was a father and a husband and "He was Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" as she repeatedly stabs the kid to death! Spartacus steps in and pulls her away, telling a just-arrived Doctore to look after her.
Spartacus heads back to the main hall where Batiatus is surrounded by the remaining gladiators. Lucretia Lohan walks in and falls to the ground, seemingly bleeding to death from her wound. Spartacus gives Batiatus the same speech he was given before taking the oath of the brotherhood. He asks him how many men he'd kill to be with his wife again but he only has to fight one. Batiatus attacks Spartacus but isn't any match for him. Batty tries to intimidate him with the old "you were nothing before me!" speech. Batty's all "I gave you the means to accept your fate!" and Spartacus coldly responds "Now you are destroyed by it" before slashing Batiatus' neck. Batiatus falls to the ground and crawls to his wife before dying. There isn't a dry eye in the house. No really, everyone is drenched in blood.
Spartacus gives his big speech of justice and freedom. They'll never have to listen to their masters again, be told to kill another brother, they'll follow their own paths, or totally join together and take down Rome! They take off for the gate and the band of heroes heads off to totally just stab Caesar Glaber! Just like I'd always hoped! HOORAY!
What a frenzied bit of fantastic! I mean, wow, when they said "kill them all" they weren't kidding. Seeing Batiatus meet his end was so exhilarating! Don't get me wrong, I'm going to miss this character, he was so delightfully evil. But tell me you didn't yell "YES!" when Spartacus finally killed him. You can't! It was perfect!
But now, who lives? Lucretia Lohan may have been bleeding to death but it was left pretty vague. She might still live. It was suggested to me by fellow Tubular blogger, Bobby Hankinson, that she could come back as one of Ke$ha's slaves. Forced to a life of servitude with no hopes of bearing a child or being married again because she's too old. I think it'd be an interesting dynamic, I'd like to see where that could go. I just love her character, I want to see more from her. She's just too diabolical and wicked to be done with.
I was surprised when it was revealed that Doctore was Oenomaus. I've been wondering when Oenomaus was going to show up on this show, knowing he was, historically, one of the slaves who rebelled against Batiatus. Finally finding out that it was Doctore all along had to be one of the most exciting parts of the finale. Well, okay, as far as parts of the show that didn't involve swords and bloodshed.
Clicking on that Oenomaus link might also reveal what we might see next season, with the big taking down of Glaber. I sincerely hope so. They didn't get closure on that story this season, which makes sense since historically it didn't happen until the war started. And I can't wait for all that to go down.
While we patiently wait for the rightfully postponed second season, there's potentially going to be a prequel miniseries. Whether or not that's necessary is for you to decide. Personally, I welcome it, but in the hopes that it's not just about Spartacus. I'd like to see each part of the miniseries focus on a different character in the show, leading up to the moment we first saw them this season. Because, let's face it, Spartacus isn't always the most exciting character on the show. And tell me you wouldn't like the see the epic battle between Doctore and Theokoles. Come on, you know that would blow your mind.
I have to say, Spartacus has been a pleasant surprise. I was excited going into episode one, knowing this was going to be an extremely fun show. But I had no idea it was going to be this clever and engaging. I know I had my thoughts on the writing early on, but it really picked up and became one of my favorite current TV shows. I'm not usually one for action films or series, but Spartacus deals it out in a way that's just so bloody satisfying to watch. I think I cheered more than the arena crowd did. Not to mention that the characters are so rich and interesting, and how much I've loved all their twists and turns. And every death was either devastating (Varro, Barca) or vindication for someone else's death (the guy that killed Sura). Spartacus is just. So. Good.
I'm not going to lie, though. Aside from the stellar action and intriguing characters, there are ridiculous aspects I'll miss while the show's on hiatus. The biggest being the slow motion, punch-to-the-face sideways bloody spit-take. That and every time Spartacus yells "DAAAAH" like a Raving Rabbid. Swap his sword for a plunger and give him a pair of floppy ears, he could totally be in a Rayman game. Aw, I tease because I love.
We may have to say goodbye to Spartacus for an extended period of time, but I have a feeling it'll be well worth the wait. In the meantime, I'm definitely jumping in my way back machine to watch it all over again.
